Why Your Landing Page Gets Traffic But Zero Enquiries

Why Your Landing Page Gets Traffic But Zero Enquiries — Website & SEO article by Abhijit JK, brand and business growth consultant

Most business owners I meet are running Google Ads or getting decent organic traffic to a specific page — and still getting no enquiries. They assume the problem is the ad, or the keyword, or the budget. Very rarely do they look at the landing page itself. That is usually where the real problem is.

A landing page has one job. Get the visitor to take an action — call you, fill a form, send a WhatsApp message. That is it. But most business landing pages in India are trying to do five things at once. They explain the company history, list every service, show awards, talk about values, and then somewhere at the bottom, they put a contact form. By the time the visitor reaches that form, they have either lost interest or forgotten why they came.

The first thing I check on any landing page is the headline. Not the logo, not the banner image — the headline. Most pages I audit have headlines like 'Welcome to XYZ Solutions' or 'Your Trusted Partner Since 2008.' These tell the visitor absolutely nothing useful. A strong headline should tell a specific visitor what they will get and why it matters to them. If you are running a page for industrial packaging manufacturers in Pune, your headline cannot be generic. It needs to speak directly to the buyer who landed there.

The second problem is what I call the trust gap. Visitors arrive with doubt. They do not know you. They found your page through an ad or a search. And the page gives them no reason to trust you quickly. No client names, no results, no real photographs, no specific numbers. Just stock images and vague claims like 'quality-driven' or 'customer-first approach.' These words mean nothing to a buyer who is comparing five vendors. Real trust comes from specifics — how many orders delivered, which industries served, what a client actually said in their own words.

Another issue I see often is that the form itself is too heavy. Name, company name, designation, phone, email, city, service required, budget range, message — all mandatory. That is a job application, not an enquiry form. Most visitors on mobile will close the page before completing that. I always recommend three fields maximum for a first contact form. Name, phone number, and one open question. That is enough to start a conversation. You can gather the rest when you actually speak to them. If you want help thinking through your page structure properly, a one-to-one consultation can save you weeks of guessing.

Speed and mobile experience are also direct conversion killers. More than 70 percent of Indian business traffic comes from mobile devices. If your landing page takes more than four seconds to load on a mid-range Android phone, a large chunk of visitors are already gone. I have seen cases where simply fixing the page speed — compressing images, removing heavy plugins — doubled the enquiry rate without changing a single word of content. The page was fine. It just never loaded properly for most visitors.

One thing that genuinely works — and is almost always missing — is a clear, single call to action. Not three buttons doing different things. One primary action. Whether that is a WhatsApp button, a call button, or a short form — pick one and make it obvious. Put it above the fold. Repeat it near the bottom. Do not make the visitor scroll and hunt for how to reach you. I have seen businesses running business growth workshops where this single fix — one clear CTA — moved their page from two enquiries a month to fifteen.

There is also a writing problem that is common across Indian business websites. The page talks about the company from the company's point of view. 'We are committed. We deliver excellence. We have a dedicated team.' The visitor is not interested in 'we.' They are thinking about their own problem — will this vendor deliver on time, can they handle my order volume, will I regret choosing them. Rewrite every paragraph with the buyer's concern at the centre. Replace 'we offer' with 'you get.' Replace 'our team ensures' with 'your order will.' This shift in language makes a real difference to how the page feels.

Traffic without conversion is expensive — whether you are paying for ads or spending time on SEO. Before you add more traffic, fix what is breaking on the page that already receives visitors. Audit your headline, simplify your form, add specific proof, and set one clear action. If you want a proper review of where your landing page is losing people, you can contact me directly and we can work through it together. Most pages need less content, not more — and a clearer focus on what the visitor needs to feel confident enough to reach out.
